The Wombats background
The Wombats formed in Liverpool in 2003 and, ever since the band's inception, the members have been the same: Matthew Murphy (vocals and guitar), Dan Haggis (drums) and Tord Overland Knudsen (bass guitar). The trio met at Liverpool's Institute of Performing Arts and quickly gained an underground cult following in the English city. In 2007, The Wombats released their debut album The Wombats Proudly Present: A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation and quickly shot into the charts and airwaves worldwide. The first Wombats songs included "Moving to New York" and "Let's Dance to Joy Division" quickly established the group as a fixture on the Indie rock scene and also showcased the band's quirky sense of humour. 2011 saw the release of the second The Wombats album This Modern Gitch which was released after an intense period of touring with The Wombats concerts around the world. In 2015, The Wombats released Glitterbug, two years after the release of the song "Your Body is a Weapon".
The Wombats new album
Most recently, in 2018, The Wombats are on tour on the back of their new album Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life. The album is a change for the once-cheeky chappies and is a giant leap into maturity and is much more serious in tone than older records. The Wombats lead singer Murphy has said of the album that 'It's the album we always should have made'. The new The Wombats singles include "Cheetah Tounge" and "Turn". So, what are you waiting for?
