New York Mets History
The Mets were one of the baseball's first expansion teams. After the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants moved to California and became the LA Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, the Mets were founded in 1962 to replace these two teams and fill the void for baseball fans in the area. It was not a great start for the new franchise and in their inaugural season in 1962 they posted the worst record in history at that point (40-120). However, in 1969 the team defied all the odds to defeat the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series in what is considered the biggest upset in World Series history.
