Katy Perry's success
Her real name being Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, Katy actually grew up listening to gospel music. Indeed, her parents discouraged her from listening to too much "secular music", seeing as they both worked as Pentecostal pastors. Ever fascinated with her forbidden fruit, throughout her teenage years Hudson relied on her friends to smuggle in CDs for her. At the age of fifteen, Hudson enlisted in the local choir, making a name for herself as a formidable performer. Recording and producing demos, Katy soon had everything she needed to make it as a fledgeling act. By 2001, Katy released her debut album, Katy Hudson. However, it was 2007 when Katy reached her breakout when she released One of the Boys. Featuring a number of smash hit tracks like "Hot n Cold" and "Thinking of You" Katy Perry's breakout came strong and fast! When "I Kissed a Girl" was released as the lead single for the album in 2008, the song climbed charts worldwide. During this time, Perry even secured the help of pop queen goddess Madonna in helping to publicise her digital EP. Once the wheels of fame started to move they became unstoppable, playing with megastars like Snoop Dogg and Timbaland.
It was around that time that Katy Perry met Russell Brand on the film set of Get Him to the Greek! Four months in the relationship the two got married while on holiday, although the marriage lasted only fourteen months. Shortly after, Katy Perry started dating John Mayer, this way starting bad blood with pop star Taylor Swift. In 2010, Katy Perry released her follow-up album, Teenage Dream! Katy Perry then made it into the Guinness Book of World Records, achieving the "Best Start on the U.S. Digital Chart by a Female Artist", with her singles selling over two million copies!
