Katy Perry's modest beginnings
Real name, Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, born in 1984, she was actually born near Santa Barbara, California, with both her parents working as Pentecostal pastors. Suffice to say, Hudson spent most of her childhood attending religious schools and camps! Unsurprisingly she grew up listening to gospel music, with her parents actually discouraging Hudson from listening to too much "secular music"! The only non-religious music she was permitted to listen to was both Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Ever fascinated with her forbidden fruit, throughout her teenage years, Hudson relied on her friends to smuggle in CD's for her, and she would even secretly watch MTV round her friends' houses unbeknownst to her parents!
It is here, where she developed her love of pop music! At the age of fifteen, Hudson enlisted in the local choir, making a name for herself as a formidable performer. Not content with simple choir singing she eventually started visiting Nashville, Tennessee in order to pursue her career in music. Recording and producing demos, along with learning about songwriting and how to play the guitar, Hudson soon had everything she needed to make it as a fledgeling act within the music world! Unsurprisingly, by 2001, Hudson released her debut album, the eponymously titled, Katy Hudson! Releasing two singles from the album, both "Trust in Me" and "Search Me", Hudson even managed to secure a place in The Strangely Normal Tour, a tour involving mostly Christian rock acts, to help promote the album. Unfortunately, with the label, Red Hill, closing down in the same year, very little came of the debut. With a new name and a new album, a lot has changed since then, and Katie Perry is now one of the biggest female pop stars in the world! So grab those Katie Perry tickets now and see this amazing starlet live!
When Hudson turned seventeen it became more than apparent that her life lay in pursuit of a music career beyond the confines of Christian music! So, moving out to Los Angeles, California, Kathryn Hudson began work on her second album with Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill producer Glen Bollard, securing a contract with Island Records! It is around this time that Hudson finally adopted her stage name, although then performing as "Katheryn Perry". The name change came as a way to avoid confusion with actress Kate Hudson, however, she soon became known as Katy Perry and the name eventually stuck!
Katy Perry's success
2007 saw Perry's final breakout, when she released her debut album as Katie Perry, One of the Boys! Featuring a number of smash hit tracks like "I Kissed a Girl", "Hot n Cold" and "Thinking of You" Katy Perry's breakout came strong and fast! When "I Kissed a Girl" released as the lead single for the album in 2008, the song debuted at number 76 but due to increasing radio airplay and a rising amount of digital downloads, the song climbed the charts until it reached number two! During this time, Perry even secured the help of pop queen goddess Madonna in helping to publicise her digital EP! Not one to rest easy, Perry began touring with the Warped Tour in 2008, it is also around this time that Perry began to crush the rumours of her parents' opposition to her career, and while they initially didn't agree with her choice they never the less supported her decision! Her second single to release from One of the Boys, "Hot n Cold" proved just as popular as "I Kissed a Girl" and while reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100, topped charts in Canada, Denmark and Germany! And after finishing her stint with the Warped Tour, she quickly resolved to embark on her first headlining tour, Hello Katy Tour!
With Perry performing eighty-nine concerts all over the world, there was no doubt to the sheer level of commitment Perry had put into her career! In 2010, Katy Perry released her follow-up album, Teenage Dream! Suffice to say the album proved even more successful than here debut, and while critical review proved mixed at best, commercially the album went down a storm, making the number one slot in a number of countries! Secondly, Katy Perry found herself making it into the Guinness Book of World Records, achieving the "Best Start on the U.S. Digital Chart by a Female Artist", with her digital singles selling over two million copies! So don't waste a moment more and buy your Katy Perry tickets!
Katy Perry's love interests
What you may not know is that Teenage Dream's "Circle the Drain" is actually focussed on her former flame, Gym Class Heroes' Travis McCoy. As the two had been an item for two years, prior to their breakup Perry actually played McCoy's love interest in the music video for "Cupid's Chokehold". Suffice to say after their breakup McCoy diplomatically stated "I'm over it. There's no bad blood. I wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavours." Needless to say the following year, Katy Perry's love life took a new turn when she met her future husband Russell Brand on the film set of Get Him to the Greek! While she was only making a cameo appearance, the two eventually began dating later that Septemeber at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards! Four months later the two got married while on holiday in Rajasthan, India!
However her blissful marriage lasted only fourteen months, when Russell Brand announced that in December that the two would be divorcing, stating "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends." With both of their careers thriving, Brand having just began to break America and Perry still riding high from Teenage Dream, the whirlwind romance as short lived as it was proved to be a pivotal point for both parties. When Perry released her fourth album, Prism, she admitted that the record had originally planned to be darker! Remnants of the album's initial intent can be in fact be seen in the hit single "Dark Horse", in which the tone takes a more harrowing sound! However, after a number of collaborations and working with new producers, the album took a turn and became a predominantly dance-inspired album! Instead of the possibly polarising album, with Perry admitting at one point "I imagine that maybe my next record would be a little bit more of an artistic venture, not that I'm going to self-sabotage either and be like "I'm going to make a crazy record that nobody really understands". However, upon recording, the process itself became a form of therapy and instead what resulted was an album all about relationships, self-empowerment and living in the moment!"
Ever since then, the singer has proved she is more than capable at creating catchy pop hooks, along with standing as one of the world's sexiest women! So take the plunge and buy your Katy Perry tickets now, here at StubHub!
