In Flames background and steps to success
At the start of the 90s, guitarist Jesper Strömblad formed In Flames in hopes expanding his musical knowledge and creating a new genre of music a little outside of the norm. With heavy metal at the base of it all, Strömblad added melodic sounds to go along with it. The idea was novel and the group worked with it to find their grove. They spent the first decade making band changes and establishing themselves as In Flames. Their first album, Used & Abused in Live We Trust was an instant success in Finland and Sweden and topped multiple charts of its genre. Their next album, Come Clarity, not only topped local charts but also reach no. 2 on US Billboard’s “Top Independent Albums”.

In Flames will go down in history without a doubt as one of the most innovative and leading groups in heavy death metal and Swedish death metal. Alongside At the Gates and Dark Tranquility have set in stone what this genre of music is all about.
