Ice Hockey - The Games in Pyeongchang History
Ice Hockey made its debut at the 1924 games in Chamonix. Ever since, six-a-side men's ice hockey has appeared at every winter tournament. In 1992 Women's ice hockey was made official and debuted at the Nagano games in 1998.
The sport of ice hockey as we know it today originated in Canada in the 1800s, it was based on various earlier forms of the game that started in Europe. A version of the game has even been documented in the epic Icelandic sagas. Obviously, living in a cold, northern country placed a significant advantage before temperature-controlled ice rinks were invented. After starting in Canada, the sport moved south to the USA and then, in turn, spread to Europe. Interestingly, the first Games to include Ice Hockey were not the ones in winter games taking place in summer in Antwerp in 1920.
