Evanescence: background information
Evanescence was formed in the mid-90s by Amy Lee (vocals/piano) and Ben Moody (guitar). Best known for their highly successful song Bring me to life (2003), the group - which originated in Little Rock, USA - has sold millions of records worldwide in addition to winning several prestigious awards. The band name Evanescence means 'to disappear' or 'fade away', and is also the name of the group's first EP in 1998.
Distributing 100 copies of their first EP at live performances, Evanescence had small beginnings, building towards the band's first full-length demo CD, entitled Origin (2000). The demo contained some songs which would later feature on the band's Fallen album, including My Immortal, and led to Amy Lee and Ben Moody, working as a duo, being picked up by Wind-up Records while Amy Lee was still in school. The pair were put through an artistic development programme in Los Angeles to develop their sound and worked towards the creation of their first album with additional band member David Hughes (keyboards).
Released in 2003, the band's debut album Fallen sold over 17 million copies globally and reached number 3 on the Billboard 200 charts. 2003 also saw the release of Evanescence's major label debut single, Bring me to life. The single reached number 1 in the UK and number 5 on the USA's Billboard hot 100. "Bring me to life" and the equally popular "My immortal" both featured in the 2003 movie Daredevil. After the success of their album Fallen, the band went on to release a further 3 albums: The Open Door (2006), Evanescence (2011) and Synthesis (2017). Indeed, the band has won several other prestigious awards as a band and as individuals. Don't miss out on seeing the band live; buy you Evanescence tickets today!
