A musical icon
Starting his music career in high school, David Byrne shot to fame when he teamed up with Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth to form the new wave band Talking Heads in 1975. Between 1975 and 1991, Talking Heads released eight studio albums and achieved significant success with songs like "Road to Nowhere", "Psycho Killer", "This Must Be The Place", "Once in a Lifetime", "Take Me to the River" and many more.
Although David Byrne had done a bit of solo music while with Talking Heads, notable works include Rei Momo (1989) and My Life in the Bush of Ghosts with Brian Eno in 1981, it was the 1994 album davidbyrne (or davidenryb) which was more conventional rock and led to commercial success. Byrne shows no sign of slowing down, and his new album American Utopia charted at Number 3 on the US Billboard charts, making it his first top 10 album on the US Billboard 200.
There is no doubt that David Byrne has had a large influence on music. Byrne has collaborated with some of the biggest and most eclectic names in music, including Fatboy Slim, Morcheeba, Brian Eno, Martha Wainwright and Arcade Fire.
