Formed in nineteen ninety-six, the band actually began with only two people, Stuart Murdoch and Stuart Davis. Recording only a handful of demos with the help of music professor Alan Rankine, the demos were quickly picked up by the Music Business course at Stow College, Rankine’s college. Usually only releasing one single each year through the college label Electric Honey, the label were so impressed with the demos that they allowed Belle and Sebastian to record a full-length album! Titled Tigermilk, the album only took three days to record, and due to their limited availability (only one thousand vinyl copies), the albums have since raised in value and can now fetch up to four hundred pounds! With the album receiving such a warm reception, the duo decided to fill out the band and recruited Stevie Jackson (Guitar and vocals), Isobel Campbel (Cello/vocals), Chris Geddes(Keys) and Richard Colburn(drums)!
Suffice to say with their debut having achieved relative success, the band was signed to Jeepster Records, and a follow-up album was soon released! Almost eighteen years since their formation Belle and Sebastian are still going strong, and while Isobel Campbell and Stuart David have left to pursue other projects, the band is still going strong! So don’t miss out and grab those all-important Belle and Sebastian tickets now, here at StubHub!
